Alicia Morning Star Grove Neash passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at her home. She was 80 years old.
A wake will be held at the family home at 5622 County Road 521, Bayfield, CO 81122, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Southern Ute Memorial Chapel, Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ouray Cemetery in Ignacio, CO.
Alicia was born August 27, 1937, to Jenny Grove in Ignacio and grew up in Ignacio. She worked as a "candy striper" when she was young. She was a member of the Native American Church and held reign as a lifetime princess of Dirty Shame Gourd Society (Dirty Shame, Oklahoma). Alicia loved to travel and she was on the Pow-wow Trail. She made many relatives. Alicia was a Sundancer and was also a traditional dancer of the Pow-wow Circle. She knew her traditional culture and was proud.
Alicia married Alfred Armstrong and he preceded her in death as well as by her mother: Jenny Grove; two uncles: Roy and John Grove; Aunt: Bessie Grove; and her grandson Francis "Chief" Cloud Taylor.
She has six daughters: Benitz Armstrong of Atlantic City, NJ, Alfreda Bailey (sps Marvin Bailey) of Oklahoma City, OK, Carletta Nez, Kimberly Armstrong, Kayla Armstorng and Joyce Delaware Ford - all of Ignacio. Alicia has 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She took pride in life; she was a woman of devout prayer and always kind and smiling. She has many relations in the Four Directions.
