Nancy Lou ‘Slade’ Price was born in Kline, Colorado, 23 November 1934 to Gilbert B. Slade and Nancy ‘Harris’ Slade. Her parents were ranchers. She lived in this area her entire life, minus her schooling years.
Nancy loved education and learning. She was able to skip the third grade and later graduated from Durango High School at the top of her class. At 16 she attended Fort Lewis College graduating with an associates degree. She then went to Western State University in Gunnison, CO. It wasn’t her cup of tea so she went to BYU in Provo, Utah. While there, she studied Chemistry and was the first woman to study in that program. The professors were amazed. She earned several awards for her studies and contributions to the program. She ultimately finished with a Masters degree in Zoology.
BYU was where she met the love of her life, Billy Ray Price. They were married in Durango, CO, 14 September 1956 and later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple. They had 5 children: S. Dodd Price, Ivan Price (Kumi), Lisa Pound (Dennis), Rebecca Gillen (Joe), and Renee Abbott (Damon).
She was a hard, industrious worker and would plant big gardens each year and proceed to can and preserve everything. She was an amazing cook, baker, seamstress and anything else she would put her mind to. Most of all, she was a blessing to those she counseled, doctored, taught, befriended and loved.
Nancy is preceded in death by: her husband, Bill, her parents, brothers; Monte, GR, and Douglas, and one granddaughter, Tia Marie.
She is survived and loved by her 5 children, 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also, two sisters, Judy Albrecht and Carmen Slade and one sister in-law Elaine Slade. She will be greatly missed by all.
