Gordon Myers

Gordon Arthur Myers was born on May 21 in 1945. He was born in California but spent little time there. Gordon moved to Gallup, New Mexico as a young boy. He caused torment in the town as his wild side showed at a very young age. He talked about his wild youth as a man of wisdom looking back saying that he was not a very good child and had even been hit by a car or two when running amuck in Gallup. He was adopted by Mildred and Armel Myers and moved to Durango in 1955, becoming brother to Karen and Sue Myers who, in Gordon's own words "were not prepared for the antics of a young boy." He attended and received multiple capital punishments by the nuns at St. Columba in his grade school years. As with many young men in the 50's and 60's, Gordon became obsessed with cars. His first car was a 1956 Chevy, which he adored. Gordon graduated from Durango High school and pursued secondary education in electronics at trade schools in Denver and coarse work at Fort Lewis College, but decided neither field fit his interest. His First daughter Krishawn Myers was born 1967. Gordon enlisted in the National Guard and attended boot camp in 1967 and was active duty until a carburetor backfired and left him burned and in the Hospital for 100 days. His passion for cars, horse power and firearms drove his interests in his young adult years. Gordon owned and operated two Texaco service stations from 1968 to 1981. During this time Gordon met Becky and her kids Ed and Penny Aber. They had found a partner in each other, each with a wild streak that lead them to many adventures. Gordon would eventually marry Becky, grow up with Ed and become father to Penny. Gordon, Becky, Ed, Krishawn and Penny grew together as a family with lake bonfires, shooting adventures and love. The next adventure xxxx would go on together would be welcoming a new generation of kids into their lives. Drew Myers in 1979 and Brandon Myers in 1981. Gordon and Becky were commended by their friends in their involvement in the lives of their young children. Camping trips, traveling, yard games and teaching them many skills that took them into adulthood. The two young children tamed some of the wild in the Myers household. Gordon sold his Texaco station in 1982 and went to work for Western Slope Gas, where he retired after 29 years of service. Gordon’s coworkers always praised his intelligence, patience and demeanor in the workplace and he created many friendships through the years. After his retirement, Gordon’s declining heath took its toll on June 17, 2018.
Gordon is preceded in death by his first grandson Corey Herring; and leaves behind Jordan Herring and Sean Myers, who both love and will miss him dearly.
Gordon leaves his wife of 41 years Rebecca (Becky) Myers. Together they raised 5 kids and had a hand in raising 3 Grandchildren. Their partnership and love in each other has influenced family and friends alike.
Gordon’s children will miss him; Ed Aber, Penny Herring, Krishawn, Drew and Brandon Myers.
A service will be held at 2 pm until 5 pm on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 6644 C.R. 203, Durango, Colorado.
