Eula Mae Morris passed away peacefully at Four Corners Health Care Center 7/25/2016 at the age of 90 years. Eula Mae was born in New Mexico on 10/7/1925 to Laurence & Sarah Eula Marker. Eula Mae married Kenneth Leo Morris who passed shortly before her on 5/1/2016. Kenneth was born 12/2/1927 to Louis and Irene Morris. He is survived by a sister Norma Jean Patrick, nieces & nephews. Kenneth & Eula Mae lived in the home Kenneth built Eula Mae as a wedding present for sixty years.
Kenneth lived in Ignacio all of his life, attending Ignacio schools & graduating from Durango High School in 1945. He attended Colorado State University (formerly Colorado A & M) and was a member of the armed forces. Kenneth’s father & uncle opened the Economy Store on Goddard Avenue in Ignacio in 1922. Kenneth joined the family business in 1948 and after his father retired, continued to operate the Economy Store until his own retirement in 1989.
Eula Mae was an elementary school teacher for 50 years and taught in Ignacio for 42 years. Mrs. Morris was honored as Colorado Teacher of the Year in 1989. She loved teaching children and although she & Kenneth never had children of their own, she leaves behind a legacy of touching & impacting many children’s lives. Eula Mae was an accomplished musician and taught numerous children in the Ignacio area to play the piano. She continued to teach the piano until her health declined. She had a collection of hundreds of teddy bears given as gifts by those who loved her.
Kenneth & Eula Mae were also beloved, longtime members of Ignacio Community Church. They were honored by the Ignacio community when they were asked to serve as Grand Marshalls at the 100th celebration of the San Ignacio Fiesta parade.
Kenneth & Eula Mae will be missed by their many friends, family, & the Ignacio community.
A service for Eula Mae & Kenneth Morris will be held at Ignacio Community Church on Sunday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m. during the regular worship service. There will be a luncheon afterwards followed by interment in Ignacio East Cemetery.
