Braulio Montoya
Braulio Montoya, 81, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home in Durango, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Montoya was born September 18, 1932 to Leon and Virginia Montoya in Cuba, New Mexico. The Montoya family had six children , who all help on the family land. Mr. Montoya made it through the 8th grade then had to give all his time and energy in helping around the home. Many family chores kept the children busy during these years. Mr. Montoya helped with the family cattle they raised to feed their family. Braulio was known for his hard work and carpentry skills. Any project that was needed around the house, Mr. Montoya was right there to accomplish the task. During his long life, Mr. Montoya was an accomplished carpenter and cowboy. His family stated he loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Mr. Montoya enjoyed gathering wood for the long winter months. He was a good provider for the family and was there to give a helping hand to all who asked. Mr. Montoya is preceded in death by his parents; Leon and Virginia Montoya; siblings; Chena Aragon, Vences Montoya, Juan Montoya, Nelson Montoya, all from Cuba, NM and Virginia Montoya of Bayfield, CO. He is survived by his wife Lusanta Montoya of Durango, CO; children, Alvie Barela of Durango, Co, Frances Gallegos of Durango, CO, Richard Montoya of Farmington, NM, Leona Montoya of Bloomfield, NM and Ray Montoya of Durango, CO. Cremation has occurred. A Rosary will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Family members will recite the rosary. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel, Father Joseph Gallegos will officiate.
