Obituary for Richard D. Meyer Jr.

Richard Dewitt Meyer, Jr., 34, died Friday, December 16, 2011, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango. Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary on Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 starting at 4 p.m. at the Lost Dog at 1150 Main Avenue.

Mr. Meyer, Jr. was born December 20, 1976, in Ann Arbor, Michigan the son of Richard and Victoria (Parent) Meyer, Sr. Mr. Meyer grew up in Ann Arbor and attended schools there. He graduated from Huron High School and then went onto college at Western State and Fort Lewis College in Colorado. He was co-owner of Vivid Color Painting in Durango. Rich married the love of his life, Jenna Johnson, in Thailand on February 28, 2009. Rich enjoyed traveling, camping, snowboarding and wakeboarding. He also like to go four wheeling in his Ford Bronco and loved the sport of soccer, playing in Durango's local recreation leagues and watching Spain's team play. He also rooted for the Wolverine football team of Michigan college and enjoyed animals, especially dogs. His friends and family fondly remember him as "Someone who was always joking, laughing and talking to everyone and he will be greatly missed."

He is survived by Jenna Meyer (spouse) and her family of Durango, Colo., Dick Meyer (father) of Springfield, MO, Chris Meyer (brother) of Idaho , David Meyer (brother) of Louisiana, Jennifer Meyer (sister) of Oregon, Beth Zinty (sister) of Texas, Sandy Vanderwerven (aunt) of Michigan, Lori Barr (aunt) of North Carolina, David Meyer (uncle) of Florida and his beloved pet dogs, Isabelle and Heina.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his uncle Gene Meyer and his dog Ruka .
