Raymond Meyer
Raymond “Ray” Meyer Died May 25, 2012 at Crane's Roost in Aztec, NM due to natural causes. He was 89 Years old. Visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of christian burial will be Friday, June 1, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Aztec, NM at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington, NM.
Ray was born August 2, 1922 in Hoyleton, IL to Henry and Emily (Hohman) Meyer. He grew up in Hoyleton and Posey, IL. Ray was drafted into the Army Aircorps during World War II and was Honorably discharged. He continued to serve as a civilian aircraft mechanic for the Air Force.
Mr. Meyer was married to Frances Von Hatten in 1950 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they raised their family. He retired from civilian military service at Williams Air Force Base in 1977.
He and his family very much enjoyed their times together at their cabin that Ray built in Heber, AZ.
Frances died in 1993 and he moved to Aztec in 2000 to be near family. Ray met Arlene Jacobs and was married in 2002.
Ray was a gifted woodworker and enjoyed bird hunting, skeet shooting and cookouts. He was a clever joke teller and told stories that everyone enjoyed. Ray never met a stranger and had a magnetic personality with his many jokes and life stories.
Mr. Meyer is survived by his 2 daughters and thier families: Kathy and Gene Jones of Durango, CO, and Beverly and Charlie Todd of Farmington, NM. His grandchildren include, Jill, Emily, Alex Jones and Kara Zurliene. He loved his faithful companion and dog, Buttons. He is also survived by a sister, Selma “Tommie” King of Carlyle, IL, and many neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 7 siblings (most recently Emily Turner, 2/12), his first wife, Frances Meyer and his second wife, Arlene Jacobs-Meyer and dear family friend Patricia Zurliene-Abel.
