Trudy Meiers, 76, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at home in Durango, Colorado . A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, August 29th at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, with lunch to follow in the church hall.
Mrs. Meiers was born March 16, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Sylvester and Helen Schanen. She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Holy Family Academy High School in 1955. Trudy obtained her bachelors degree in medical technology from DePaul University in Chicago. She married William “Bill” Meiers on October 3, 1959 in Chicago. Trudy worked at St. Anne’s Hospital of Chicago and later at Northwestern University, where she was involved in AIDS research. Throughout Trudy’s career, she was also a wonderful mother raising three outstanding children.
Trudy and Bill retired in the late ninety’s and moved to Durango in 1999. Trudy was an active member and volunteered at Sacred Heart, and also volunteering for Mercy Medical Center, the Methodist Thrift Store, Manna Soup Kitchen and other servant ministries as called upon. Trudy loved to read and continued to seek knowledge and research at home from her computer.
She is survived by her husband Bill Meiers of Durango, Colo., children: David C. Meiers of Indianapolis, Indiana, Susan T. Meiers (Carolyn) of Macomb, Ill., Linda A. Mills (Brian) of Wheeling, Ill., Granddaughter: Amelia Jane Meiers of Anderson, Indiana, a Cousin, Christine Lamut of Chicago, Ill., and a Sister-in-law: Ann Skidmore of Sun City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt: Trudy Lamut, a brother: Ken Skidmore, and a
brother-in-law: Bob Meiers.
