Obituary for
Jerry Dean McVay
Jerry Dean McVay died Monday, May 23, 2011, at home in Durango, Colo. He was 60.
Jerry was born August 24, 1950, in Iowa, son of Gerald and Mildred McVay. Jerry lived in Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Arkansas. He lived in Arkansas for 22 years before moving to Durango after his mother's death.
Jerry liked to work in the yard. Boating was a special passion. He enjoyed antique cars and trucks and liked to fix up old cars. He loved living in the Colorado mountains. His family remembers that Jerry was a very devoted son to his mother and father.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Darroll “Skip” McVay, who lived in Mancos, Colo. He is survived by his sisters Sharon K. Long of Humboldt, Iowa; Linda S. Harmon and Charlotte Brustrom of Benton, Ark.; and Jenny Boge of Humboldt, Iowa; sons Dustin McVay of Benton, Ark.; and Corey and Jeremy Powell of Iowa.
A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos, Colo. Jim Powell will be the officiant. Burial will occur at Cedar Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends in Arkansas.
