Obituary for
Robert Leamon McCoy
Robert Leamon McCoy passed away May 28, 2013, at his Bayfield home. He was born October 29, 1927, at LaPlata, N.M. He was a lifelong resident of the Pine River Valley. He met Ruby Lenore Tangreen while working at Redd Ranches in La Sal, Utah. They married June 29, 1950, in Aztec, N.M. Shortly thereafter they moved to the ranch he had purchased near Bayfield. They raised six children there. They lived on the ranch through their sixty-two year marriage that ended with her death last year. Robert bought his first registered Hereford heifer as a young boy, starting a long term interest in Hereford cattle. He worked at the Bayfield Conoco for a number of years. He made many friends whether selling bulls, raising quarter horses, training cutting horses, or riding mules. He loved driving his team of mules hooked to the wagon he restored, in parades and shows. Robert enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods with his family and friends. He was a great story teller and loved to visit. He is survived by children: Pat McCoy of Hereford, Tx, Evelyn Risen, Durango, Bobby McCoy of Bayfield, Sue Decker and husband Jaye of LaPlata, New Mexico, Jim and Penny McCoy of Craig, Colo., Julie Baird and Denny Ridgeway of Bayfield. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Bayfield Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) located at 1690 US HWY 160B. Burial will take place at Pine River Cemetery also in Bayfield. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The American Cancer Society.
