Jerry McCaw died peacefully at home on August 28th, 2015 at the age of 68 of pancreatic cancer.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lora McCaw; sons, Ed and Allen McCaw; daughters-in-law, Kelly and Meghan McCaw; grandsons, Austin, Cole, Brady and Dylan McCaw. Jerry is preceded in death by his father LeRoy McCaw; mother Ruth McCaw; and sister Patricia Barnes.
Jerry was born on January 25th, 1947 in Durango, Colorado to parents LeRoy and Ruth McCaw. Jerry attended grade school at the Oxford grange, and graduated from Ignacio High School in 1965. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Lora Hronich in 1966. Jerry graduated from Colorado State University in 1972 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jerry moved back to the family farm and worked for the Soil Conservation Service for the next 37 years as a civil engineer helping many farmers and ranchers implement conservation and irrigation practices. Jerry was active on local boards of directors including the Ignacio School Board, Basin COOP, La Plata Electric Association, Habitat Partnerships, King Consolidated Ditch and the Southwest Basin Water Round Table.
Jerry was intelligent, quick witted and generous beyond belief. Jerry loved God, family and country unfailingly. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family on the ranch.
A funeral is scheduled for Friday, September 4th, 10 a.m. at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church followed with a burial at the Florida Cemetery. Pastor David McCaw will officiate the ceremony.
