Obituary for
Dawn R. Mayberry
Durango resident Dawn Mayberry, 50, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012, at her home after a two-year battle with cancer.
Dawn was born April 10, 1962, in Scottsdale, Ariz., to Hartley and Diana Naas, and grew up in Concord, Calif., where she met Jack Mayberry while attending Concord High School. They married in 1981 and started their large family shortly after. They were married for nearly 32 years and had six children. Jack and Dawn opened Mayberry Glass in 1984, and she assisted in running the business for many years in Concord.
In 2006, Dawn and Jack and their four youngest children moved to Durango. It was her dream to own enough land with her family on which they could have horses and other animals. She had an incredibly caring heart and loved caring for animals and children. She worked at the Leland House and Rochester Hotel, serving breakfast to guests with a smile in the early hours of the morning. She also worked at Sunshine Gardens West, where she was able to share her gift of caring for others. After a back injury, she cared for her dear friend Harry Anderson at her home for some time.
Dawn loved her family dearly and was always very involved in different activities with her children as they all grew up, from Girl Scouts to Boy Scouts, baseball, 4-H, and homeschooling her youngest children for the past 10 years. She loved baking, reading, gardening, and crafting.
Her husband, Jack, said, “Heaven has just become a better place.”
Dawn is survived by her husband, Jack Mayberry; children: Jasmine Mayberry and partner Cosmo of Durango; Dustin Mayberry and wife Veronica of Brentwood, Calif.; Karlin Mayberry, Reubin Mayberry, Quentin Mayberry and Shannin Mayberry of Durango, Colo.; grandson Logan Matthew Clayton-Mayberry; parents Hartley and Diana Naas of California; sister Deborah Naas of Texas; brother David Naas and wife Francine of California; and many other close family and friends.
There will be a private memorial service for family and friends at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Dawn Mayberry Fund at Pine River Valley Bank.
