Obituary for
Robert S. Matthews
Robert ”Bob” Sigmund Matthews took the last fishing boat out on January 18, 2012, in Sun City, Ariz.
Born August 11, 1927, to Emery Matthews and Lillian Florence Holden of Joplin, Mo., Bob made friends with people from all walks of life who in turn loved his gregarious ways. A man of many talents and abilities, he found time to build careers in electrical contracting, Dalton Land and Cattle Co., discovering and mining Bisbee Blue Turquoise, land developments, Sea Breeze Charter Fishing, and many business ventures with his friends. Bob was always ready to help family, friends or strangers if he heard of their problems. A member of many country clubs, he loved golf almost as much as fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Willa Mae “Billie” Matthews of Sun City, brother Harold Matthews and sister LaVern Watts of Joplin Mo.; children Richard (Marlynda) Matthews of Mapleton, Utah; Susan (Jay) Jorgensen of Taylorsville, Utah; Robert Wayne Matthews of Salt Lake City, and Rod Matthews of San Francisco; step-daughters Cindy Weaver of Portland, Ore.; and Colleen King of Farmington, N.M.; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents, brother Wallace Matthews, and wife Marr Mickelson.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango, Colo. Interment will occur at Greenmount Cemetery after the service.
