Wallace Mason

August 1, 1924 — May 17, 2015

Wally is survived by wife, Lois June Mason; daughter Norma Tietz; and son Doug Mason. Wally was a loving father, husband, and friend to all.
Wally was born in Ignacio to his homesteading parents, Wilford & Minnie Mason on August 1, 1924. He graduated from Ignacio High School. He moved to California for a while, to work with his brother. Upon his return to the Durango area, he bought the Texaco station across from the Strater Hotel. He later started Wally’s Shop specializing in automatic transmissions. Wally’s was known for honest and reliable auto mechanics. He had a knack for making everything run better.
Wally loved flying, boating, water skiing & fishing. Perhaps his love of flying came from being in the Army Air Core. Later in life, he enjoyed gardening, including grafting fruit trees, building and flying model airplanes, with an occasional crash. His most favorite past time was visiting with his many friends, developed over his 90 years as a Durango Native.
A special thank you to the all his friends at the Sacred Heart Church.
A Rosary, followed by funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 2pm, reception to follow at the Durango Elks Lodge.
