It is with a heavy heart that we remember Mary Sue Walker (Cox). She was a truly giving,
loving, and caring person with a kind soul who passed away on August 28th, 2024, at her home in
Bayfield, Colorado. Born in Laferia, Texas on August 30th, 1942, to Ruben and Emma Cox. She
was preceded in death by her siblings Lemual, Lawrence, Allen, Daisy, and Jerry. She is
survived by her husband, Charles Walker; her children, Sherryl Matney and Narcissa Walker;
and her son-in-law Chris Matney, as well as her grandchildren, Hailey and Heather Matney,
great-grandchildren, Kristian, Alexander, and Natalie Hill, Ashton, Greyson, Olivia, Madison,
MacKenzie, and Gavin Hardesty, amongst numerous cherished nieces, nephews and sister in
laws.
Mary Sue’s selfless and hard-working nature epitomized her as a loving mother and doting
grandmother. She had a long, loving, extremely happy marriage of 63 years, with her husband
Charles. Her world revolved around her family, and she always put others’ needs before her
own. Her significant efforts to provide for her family through multiple jobs showcased her
unwavering dedication. She was known as the energizer bunny to her kids and grandkids. Mary
Sue found her greatest joy and pride in being a grandmother and further as a beloved “granny”
to her great-grandchildren, who filled her remaining days with immense love and happiness. Her
warm presence lit up every room, and her graceful smile was a source of joy for everyone
around her. It is certain that her absence will be deeply felt, but her bright spirit will continue to
live on through all those she loved and who loved her in return.
“In a bittersweet moment, another angel has found their wings and has set off on flight safe into
the arms of God and to those gone before them waiting and anticipating their arrival as they
make their way into heaven.”
