Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mentor and friend. She loved to travel whether near or far. She cherished every trip and adventure while collecting and making memories along the way. She made many trips to see family and friends, loved swimming in local lakes, camping in Moab or the mountains, traveling the trails through Colorado mountains or her trips to England and Ireland with students as a chaperone. Mary loved life and encouraged people to live each day to the best of their ability and to always try to find the positive in each moment.
Mary always put 100% into her work. One of her biggest accomplishments was working with people who are less fortunate or with disabilities. She treated every person she worked with (client or co worker) like family. Even after the closure of the group home she managed for many years, she kept in touch with the clients. They all had a special place in her heart. She treated them like equals and their bond was like no other.
Mary was born in Litchfield, Minnesota to William and Evelyn Heveron. After graduation from Grove City High School in 1966, Mary worked in many interesting jobs, including Tonka Toys and Green Giant. Mary was married to Philip Johnson in 1966, and they had 4 beautiful daughters. They raised their family on the farm in Minnesota before moving to Durango, Colorado in 1985. In her later years, Mary enjoyed playing games, cards and having get-togethers. Family and friends meant so much to her.
Mary is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Michael (Rhonda) Sprenger from Mankato, Minnesota, daughters Angela (Chad) Hatch from Olivia, Minnesota, Sheila (Jarrett) Self from Durango, Colorado, and Rachel Woodbury from Hillsboro, Oregon, 6 grandchildren (Cody Hatch, Katie Hatch, Alysa Zion, Gabe Zion, Sam Self and Avery Woodbury) and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers William Jr (Julie) Heveron, John Heveron, Michael (Carolyn) Heveron and her sister Leanne Cox and numerous family and friends from all over.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cheryl, great granddaughter Ryler, her brother Dennis Heveron, sister-in-law Shirley Heveron and brother-in-law Billy Cox.
In true Mary form, there will be a Celebration of Life for Mary in the Spring of 2025 at Haviland Lake. In the meantime, smile, love and make every moment count!
