Andrew Martinez

Andrew Andio Martinez, 53, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at home in Ignacio, Colorado. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. and Father Douglas Hunt of St. Ignatius Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Ignacio West Cemetery in Ignacio. Mr. Martinez was born May 14, 1959, in Oxford, Colo., the son of Reuben and Ophelia Martinez. He is a lifetime resident of Ignacio, growing and attending schools there. He met Tina Martinez in 1980 and they were later married in Durango, Colo. He has worked in and around Ignacio in forestry firefighting and mitigation and especially enjoyed that work. Andrew enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, picnics and camping, always with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Tina Martinez of Ignacio; children: Lenora Martinez of Ignacio and Leroy Martinez of Ignacio; siblings: Veronica Garcia of Virginia, Minn., Marie Driskell of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Domonic Martinez of Virginia, Minn., and seven grandchildren: Andrew, Julio, Ethan, Ayden, Julianna, Samarah, and Kaydince. He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
