Born to Candido and Gravielita Maestas on February 25, 1929 Margaret spent her childhood on her father's farm. She loved to tell stories about working on the farm, and all the adventures she had as a poor farm girl during the Great Depression. Margaret graduated from Durango High School in 1948 and shortly thereafter moved to Santa Fe to live with her sister Mary and to find work. Margaret found work at a bank, and on a weekend outing to Albuquerque she found love. She met Emmanuel A. "Manny" Rodri, a dashing young soldier whom she would marry on July 19, 1952. They would move to Downingtown Pa., Manny's hometown, where they would go on to have 3 sons. They moved back to Durango in 1960 where they raised their sons. Margaret loved to dance especially the Jitterbug in her younger days. She loved to bowl and crochet. She loved to play cards and watch her beloved Colorado Rockies, watching every game since the inaugural season. Most of all she loved to cook, and she was very good at it. Her marinara was so good it would make grown men weep. Margaret did a bit of gardening and she was a dog lover and had a number of dogs, mostly rescues, through the years. Margaret was lovingly cared for by her son Mike and daughter in law Kristy for the last 6 years of her life at their home in Cortez.
Margaret is survived by her sons John Michael, and his wife Kristy, of Cortez; Stephen Joseph of Portsmouth R.I.; Gerald David and his wife Lisa, of Durango; 7 Grandchildren Joshua, Jared, Kyle, Naomi, Rachel, Noah and Max; 3 Great Grandchildren Mia, Hannah and Blake; older sister, Mary Schimp and younger brother Nick Maestas; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Manny; her Parents Candido and Gravielita Maestas; her brother Ross and her sisters Louise, Dora, Francis; and many other cherished family members and friends are awaiting her in heaven.
