Margaret Olivia (Gallegos) Gomez

Margaret Olivia (Gallegos) Gomez, an Ignacio native, passed away on May 9, 2023 In Lakewood, CO., surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old.

Margaret worked for Fort Lewis College for 22 years before retiring. She enjoyed sewing, baking, talking on the phone with friends, laughing and giving her husband a hard time. Margaret’s greatest pleasure in life were her four grandchildren who could “do no wrong” in her eyes.

Margaret is preceded in death by her daughter Olivia “Punks” Gomez, father Tony, and brothers Lonnie, Frank, Joseph and Dave Gallegos.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 53 years, Cipriano “Butch” Gomez of Durango; sons Terry (Jenn), Adam (Carrie); daughter Karla (Brandon); grandchildren Esai, Olivia, Eva, Envy; mom Mary Gallegos; sisters Cindy Gallegos and Kathy Gurule all of Ignacio; numerous nephews and nieces. The world seems darker without her here.

Services for Margaret will be on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango, with the Rosary at 11:30 a.m. and Mass following at 12:00 p.m. Please join the family for pastries and coffee after Mass. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, with the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and a Memorial Mass following at 10:00 a.m. Please join the family with a luncheon after Mass.
