Howard Allen Maddox, 93, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2020. Howard was born February 18,1927 to Edward and Helen Maddox in Evanston, IL, though he grew up in the Detroit, Michigan area. He graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1945. After high school he worked at the Chrysler Motors Assembly Plant until drafted into the US Army. He served his country in Austria at the end of World War II and during the reconstruction. He used the GI Bill to earn his Bachelors Degree in Economics from Michigan State University, graduating in 1951. While traveling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, he met the love of his live, Martha Laplander and after a short courtship they were married on August 8, 1953. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Colorado in 1954 and raised their family in the Denver Area until health issues required him to move closer to family in Durango, CO. Throughout his career, Howard was involved in sales with several different companies and with his own company. He was a naturally born sales person and loved socializing and telling jokes and antidotes! Howard was a dedicated family man and loved to get outdoors to hike and camp with his children, grand children and eventually his great grand children. He also loved the company and enjoyment of his dogs! Howard enjoyed hiking, biking, golf, cross country skiing, square dancing with his wife of 66 years later in life and during retirement.
Howard is survived by his wife, Martha, 91 of Durango, his four children-Deborah Klepfer Darrell (Eileen), Jody (Dave) Peck and Kevin, seven grandchildren-Amanda (Jeremy) Sisneros, Kelly (Kodi) Jones, Virginia (Jeffrey) Hofferber, Paul (Jacquelyn), Wade, Matthew and Rianna and five great grandchildren-Liam, Hunter, Finley, Gabriel and Joshua. Memorial services for Howard will be announced later.
