As a child in the 1950’s, he developed a life-long attraction to trains. He was fascinated by them and would study associated lines, bridges, trestles, stations, and routes. His sense of romance and history was infectious and he would often talk of the spirit of his times through the lenses of trains and travels to share his thoughts and observations. He was deeply interested in architecture and large structural applications. During the last days of his life he traveled to Trout Lake to see the old railroad trestle which lifted his spirits tremendously.
During his early 20’s, Gary and his closest friends often travelled to the American West which led him to live in Southwestern Colorado. He was drawn to the scenic splendor of the San Juan’s and the Four Corners area. Gary was an avid fisherman and outdoors person who believed in God and was reverently in awe of nature and creation. He was an accomplished guitarist and loved music and singing. Gary was a strong man who overcame many obstacles in his life. He lived well, he travelled, he worked, and loved his family and friends. He was unique and a wonderful friend and family man whom we shall all miss dearly.
A small private service was held on October 9, 2014 at Summit Ridge Cemetery, Dolores, Colorado.
