Obituary for
Richard C. Macahan
Richard C. Macahan, born June 13, 1945, passed away on October 16, 2011, in Ignacio, at the age of 66. He died at home of complications from small cell lung cancer while recovering from prostate cancer.
Richard served seven years in the Army during the Viet Nam war. He was a helicopter pilot and warrant officer. He loved flying; it was a major part of his life. He worked as a pilot after he got out of the service in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado, as well as several other states. He was also called upon to train pilots over sea in Israel. He also served as Deputy Sheriff in New Mexico. He loved to fish and hunt. He had a great respect for the military, his family, and his friends and the people he worked with and counted as friends.
He is survived by his wife Georgia of Ignacio, two daughters: Dawn and Nicole, three stepsons: Shane, Justin and Brandon, and a brother Bob of California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him and were lucky enough to be called his friends.
Richard held four Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and a Purple Heart, as well as several other accommodations. He will be buried Friday, October 29, 2011, at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors. The funeral is at 11:30 a.m.
