Obituary for
Gloria M. Lopez
Long time Durango resident Gloria Lopez passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in Colorado Springs.
Gloria was born July 8, 1951, in Monte Vista, Colo. She grew up in Monte Vista and Sanford, Colo., graduating from Sanford High School. She went on to attend college in Trinidad, Colo. On September 2, 1972, Gloria married Herold Lopez, and in 1980, they moved to Durango with their three sons.
Herold and Gloria owned several businesses in the downtown area, but most recently, Gloria worked at Four Corners Health Care Center.
All who knew Gloria would say she was giving, not only to family, but also to friends and co-workers. Gloria loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Herold Lopez, of Durango; her mother, Jennie Martinez, of Denver; stepfather Felix Gallegos; her mother-in-law, Esther Lopez, of Manassa, Colo.; her sons and their spouses: Isais and Jennifer Lopez of Durango; Noah and Erin Lopez of San Diego; and Abel Lopez and Jessica Clay of Durango. She is also survived by six sisters, four brothers, and six grandchildren.
Visitation will occur from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., also on Monday, at Sacred Heart Church in Durango. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Sacred Heart Church, with burial afterward at Greenmount Cemetery.
