Lloyd Gilbert Valencia of Durango passed away Sunday, March 12th, 2023 in Farmington, surrounded by family.
Born in Kline to the parents of John D. Valencia and Donelia Archibeque on February 4, 1931, Lloyd was raised with many siblings in the Cherry Creek area where his father started a homestead in 1929.
He built his first home in the Hesperus area in the early 1960’s, where he lived with his first wife, Patricia Porterfield. There, they had three sons before he bought a home in Animas Valley, Durango, in the late 1960’s, where he raised his sons and began raising cattle and horses. He later married Ada Graybill in 1986.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry, and Randy Valencia; siblings Ruth Gonzales, Connie Flores, Lucy Martinez, and Daniel, Samuel, Isaac, and Orlando Valencia; stepchildren Lonnie, Gary and Mike Graybill, and Darla Murphy; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his first wife, Patricia Porterfield; wife, Ada Valencia; siblings Clara Martinez, Fred Valencia, and Felix Archibeque; son, Harold Valencia; and grandchildren, Tyler and Jeremy Valencia. A service will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, Durango, CO.
Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a skilled hunter, rancher, and fisherman with great knowledge of the Rocky Mountains and was respected by many. His stories will be remembered by those he inspired and his legacy lives on through the numerous lives he touched.
