Obituary for Bernadine A. Leyshon

Bernadine Ann Leyshon died Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Denver, Colo. She was 78. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor George Brayton, will be held Tuesday, July 12, at 2 PM at the Holiday Hills Community Church in Federal Heights, Colorado. Visitation will be Saturday, July 16 at 10 AM at Hood Mortuary in Durango followed by a graveside service, officiated by Pastor David McCaw, at 2 PM at the Ignacio West Cemetery.

Bernadine was born September 13,1932 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Glen Joseph Norris and Lena May Norris (Balmer) but spent most of her young life in southwest Colorado. In 1948, at the age of 16, she married her life-long love, Henry. She dedicated her life to raising 5 children, and after they were grown, Bernadine devoted her time to assisting people with disabilities. She later went on to college to learn office skills and worked for Total Petroleum for five years until she retired to tour the country with Henry in their travel trailer. They settled in Ignacio in 1998. When Henry passed in 2004, Bernadine moved to Denver to be with her family.

Bernadine crocheted and knitted beautifully. Her family is proud to own many of her handmade projects. She also loved watching hummingirds and singing old country songs.

She is survived by daughters Gloria Leyshon of Lakewood, CO, and Bobbie (Patrick) Ostberg of Arvada, CO, son Steve (Patricia) Leyshon of Las Vegas, NV, and grandchildren Jim (Shannon) Leyshon, Evean Leyshon, Bradley Leyshon, Hannah Leyshon, Rickey (Kristen) LyBarger, Ryan LyBarger, Julia Ostberg, Wesley Ostberg, Jennifer Leyshon, and 10 great grandchildren, Rachel, Clark, MacKenzie, Isiah, Elijah, Jaydon, Miranda, Abygayle, Ava, and Addison. She also leaves behind sisters Betty Lafferty and Ellen McCasland and brother Kenneth Norris.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry Allen Leyshon, son Glen Leyshon of Lochbuie, CO, and daughter Judy Ritchie of Buena Park, CA.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in Bernadine's name be sent to the Ahlzheimer's Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver CO 80203.
