Obituary for Helen F. Leonardelli

Helen Faye Leonardelli, 99, died Monday, February 6, 2012, in Durango, Colo., just one month short of her 100th birthday.

Mrs. Leonardelli was born March 8, 1912, in Adair, Okla., the daughter of Samuel and Abbie Stewart. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1929. She married Horace Buchanan June 29, 1939. Mr. Buchanan died in June 1951. She married Leo Leonardelli in April of 1955.

She lived many different places throughout her life, including Adair, Okla.; Norwood, Delta, Grand Junction, and Durango, Colo.; Edmonton, Alberta, in Canada; and in Pennsylvania. In 1977, after 23 years of service, she retired from Foote Mineral in Exton, Pa., where she worked in the executive offices for ten years.

She was active in Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star, and served on the Manna Soup Kitchen Board. She belonged to the Altar Guild at St. Mark's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Daughters of the King.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Horace Buchanan and Leo Leonardelli, brothers Harvey Stewart, Forest Stewart and Everett Stewart; and sisters Bettie Gregg, Amanda Lechleiter and Regina Stewart.

She is survived by son Jay (Launa) Buchanan of Rifle, Colo., and Joel Buchanan of Durango, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, February 10, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will take place after the visitation at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Durango. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery after the service.
