Obituary for
Gloria B. Lawton
Durango resident Gloria Bowker Lawton died Friday, June 22, 2012, in the Hospice of Mercy Room at Four Corners Health Care Center. She was 92.
Mrs. Lawton was born to Francisco Medina and Maria Moraga de Medina on May 12, 1920, in Bisbee, Ariz. She was one of 11 children and grew up in Bisbee and California. She married William Bowker in San Diego. The marriage ended in divorce after almost 30 years.
Mrs. Lawton was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was also artistic, her daughter Gloria Rose said, sketching and drawing cartoons. Mrs. Lawton was also musical. She married John Lawton in Las Vegas, and she moved to Durango 15 years ago.
“Gloria will forever be lovingly remembered for her many talents, comforting words of wisdom, strong independent nature, tremendous sense of humor, deep faith and zest for life,” her family said.
Mrs. Lawton was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawton; and former husband, William E. Bowker.
She is survived by her sons Billy Bowker and Gary Bowker, both of Durango; daughters Patti Hamberger of Gypsum and Gloria Rose of Tucson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1830 East Second Ave.
