Bret Koster – 2/18/1950 – 2/10/2020
Passed away of cancer in Durango, Colorado. Bret was raised in Salida, Colorado and moved to the Durango area in the early 1980s. Along with his quirky sense of humor, Bret was kind loving 'people person’ whose path crossed daily with many people, whether at his recent positions at Durango Silverton Railroad and Elmore’s Corner Store, or in the past at Coca-Cola, Strater and Tamaron. Bret’s path crossed with as many dogs as it did with humans! Bret was a passionate volunteer at La Plata Humane Society since 2010 and serving on the board from 2012, until his passing. Bret was particularly proud of his organized Mutts in the Mountains where volunteers take shelter dogs out for long walks for exercise.
Survived by younger brother Scott Koster of Stanfordville, NY; brother-in-law Alan Boan of Fort Walton Beach, FL; nephews Ryan, Derek and Evan Koster of Colorado and step children Rydor McCune and Darcy Swymeler.
Predeceased, in 2018, by sister Jana Koster Boan.
Internment private with family. Celebration of Bret’s life to be announced at a later date.
To honor Bret, take a rescue dog for a walk!
