Mary Kluss, age 93, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 13, 2020. Mary was born on February 6, 1927 in Kokomo, Indiana to John and Ida Hill. She later became a Nun, and taught third grade in South Bend, Indiana, at a Catholic School. When Mary was older, she left Indiana to take care of her aunt and uncle in Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, she was given a choice to resign from the Convent, so she took an administrative position at the Cathedral Parish Church in Atlanta. Later, she saw an advertisement in the "Catholic Friendship Club" and sent for their newsletter. She noticed a gentleman who lived in Durango, and decided to write to this man named Charles. In her memoir, Mary wrote, "The rest is history. Charles and I met, fell in love, and we were married at St. Columba Church in Durango on January 15, 1977." Charles affectionately called Mary, "My Georgia Peach." They shared 36 beautiful years together. Mary worked for St. Columba Church for a number of years, and thoroughly loved sharing her life with Charles. They gardened together, she canned and baked, and she and Charles enjoyed picnics and fishing in the beautiful Colorado mountains for many years. Mary loved her dogs, cats, and feeding her birds every morning. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her sister, Patricia Miller, and her beloved husband, Charles. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Because of Mary's love of animals, donations to La Plata County Humane Society in her name would be treasured.
