Margaret Ann Klatt (Rutledge) passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan in Aztec, NM on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Margaret was born July 6, 1924 to John and Margaret Rutledge at the old Oschner Hospital in Durango, CO.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years of marriage, Fred W. Klatt, Jr., her parents, brother John Rutledge, sister Veronica Phelps and granddaughter, Kimberlee Klatt Titus.
Margaret is survived by her son, Fred W. Klatt, III (wife Jene'), daughter Marianne Windsor, sister Virginia Bechtolt (husband Don), brother Bill Rutledge (wife Lois). She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and innumerable friends.
Margaret graduated from Durango High School in 1942. She married Fred in 1943, had 2 children while making their life through WWII assignments and posts. After the war, they settled in Cortez, CO and then returned to Durango where Fred worked for Monarch Airlines (later Frontier Airlines). In the 60's they established Klatt Travel, Inc. Margaret had a self-taught (initially OJT) nursing career, and eventually challenged State Boards to obtain her LPN license, and would later be appointed by Gov. Lamm to the LPN State Board of Nursing. Midlife she continued her education by attending Mesa State College in Grand Junction, to obtain her RN degree. She worked at Community Hospital and Mercy Medical Center for many years, in addition to assisting W. P. Ball, MD and other local physicians.
Per her wishes, cremation will take place. An informal reception will be held at 2180 Lighting Design Studio, at 2180 Main Ave., Durango on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 12pm. A planned family memorial will take place on her birthday in July 2018 in the Silverton, CO area.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10am at St. Columba Catholic Church, Durango.
