Deanne Kilpatrick
Deanne Kilpatrick, 90, died Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Valley Inn in Mancos, Colorado. Private services will be held at a later date to celebrate Deanne and her late husband of 73 ½ years, Bud.
Deanne was born August 11, 1923 in Rosine, Kentucky the daughter of William and Daisy Lively. She grew up Cleveland, Tenn., until her family moved to Tucson, Ariz. She married Bud Kilpatrick in 1939 in Tucson. Their son, Mick was born in 1940. Shortly after the beginning of their young family, Deanne and Bud worked at Consolidated Aircraft in aircraft production and finishing for B-24’s during World War II. Bud was drafted into the Army and Deanne followed him. They were stationed in multiple state-side locations but ultimately in Topeka, Kansas, where their second son, Timothy was born in 1946. Bud was discharged from the Army Air Corp and the family moved to Independence, Calif.
Deanne returned to school in Independence, Calif., to obtain her high school diploma after her sons had graduated. She graduated in the High School class of 1967 at the age of 43.
Upon Bud’s retirement, they settled in Durango for the summers and Yuma, Ariz., for the winters. After several years in Durango, they decided to return to Arizona to enjoy the warmer climate. They lived in Dewey, south of Prescott, for 25 years. Deanne and Bud returned to Durango in 2010 due to health issues, and to live with their son and his wife, Mick and Ruth.
Deanne very much loved to travel both with family and without. She journeyed internationally to New Zealand, North America, and Europe. She was also a skilled seamstress and quilter, excellent cook and all around crafter.
She is survived by a son, James "Mick" Kilpatrick, and daughter-in-law, Ruth Katzin, of Durango; three grandchildren, Kevin Kilpatrick of Los Alamitos, Calif., Kathleen Kilpatrick-Gardner of Durango, and Marlene Kilpatrick of Boulder, Colo.; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Kilpatrick in 2012, and her husband, Bud in 2013.
