Henry B. "Pete" Johnson
Henry Burl “Pete” Johnson, 98, died Monday, October 15, 2012, at his home in Bayfield, Colorado.
Mr. Johnson was born August 8, 1914, in Bolckow, Andrew County, Missouri, the son of Samuel Leonis “Leon” and Carrie Hope Vanmeter Johnson. Henry spent his early years in the St. Joseph MO area graduating from school there. He served the country and Navy honorably as a Seabee in World War II. After the war he lived in the state of California for a period of time before moving to Cedaredge, Colorado. Henry loved hunting, fishing, and camping on the Grand Mesa with his friends and relatives. Henry volunteered his services extensively to the local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his stepson Jay Rhodes and wife Phyllis of Bayfield, Colorado, one stepdaughter and one step-granddaughter, a first cousin Corbett Cundiff and wife Virginia of St. Joseph MO, grandson, Jacob Rhodes and his wife Jessie, and a great-granddaughter, Ana Marie Rhode, all of Bayfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rhodes Johnson, his parents, two brothers Marvin Leonis Johnson and William Orval Johnson, and one sister, Mary Roberta Dunsworth.
