Della Marie (Weyrick) Johnson, age 84, passed away on March 24th, 2018. Born June 7th, 1933 in Yakima, Washington she is the daughter of Rev. Ralph J. Weyrick and Zelma Thompson Weyrick. After completing a B.A. degree at Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, she fulfilled her life-long goal of Christian missionary work by joining the teaching staff of the Presbyterian mission at Ganado, AZ in 1955. There she met Robert Shenk Johnson who she married in 1958. In 1960 Bob and Della left Ganado and moved to Durango, CO purchasing their home on East Animas Road. They bought printing equipment and operated Twin Cedars LetterShop for many years. In 1978 Della and Bob began three years of Christian missionary work using their printing skills at Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Africa. Upon returning to Durango, Della worked at Fort Lewis College until her retirement in 1998 doing numerous jobs around the campus wherever her skills took her. Della was active in various Christian churches in Durango and Silverton as well as FLC Women's group, the East Animas Ditch Company and the Cowboy Poetry group. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, scrapbooking and helping neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gladys Joy Anderson, her brother Laurence Weyrick and husband Robert Shenk Johnson. She is survived by her brother Dean Weyrick and numerous nieces and nephews.
