Caroline Reeves Johnson died on November 25, 2016, peacefully at home with her family. She was born on November 28, 1948 in Minneapolis. She grew up in Edina, MN, but migrated west shortly after finishing college, ending up in northern California where she taught outdoor education and worked as a wilderness camp counselor in the Trinity Alps.
After marriage and a move to Durango in 1984, she worked part-time as a Spanish teacher, mostly at Needham Elementary; her former students would still call her “Senora Johnson” when they had a chance meeting around town. She was an accomplished landscape artist, loved nordic & alpine skiing, biking, kayaking, rafting, and in the last few years, surprised everyone when she decided to take up golf. But mostly she loved being on a high mountain trail or in a deep desert canyon, seeing what was around the next bend or over the next ridge.
She is survived by her husband Mac, daughter Tessa, and son Milo; brothers Jim Reeves & Scott Reeves; sisters Marcy Reeves & Barb Marsh; and 20 nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at a future date.
