John Thomas Moore

John Thomas Moore passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in Durango, CO, after a short illness. He was born in Buckhorn, NM on May 28, 1927 to James and Mona Moore. He went to school in Cliff, NM. After high school graduation he joined the Navy Seabees and served in the South Pacific during World War II. When he returned home, he graduated with a teaching degree from Western New Mexico University. He taught school and coached sports in Quemada, PieTown and Hatchita, NM.

After completing his Master's Degree in business from Western, he started working for the Social Security Administration, where he remained until his retirement. He married his wife, Jesse, in 1954 and they had three daughters. His job gave him the opportunity to live in many communities and states, and brought himself and his family to Durango in 1971.

John was predeceased by his daughter, Joni Zaragoza. He is survived by his wife: Jesse; twin sister: Emily Keller; daughters: Jeri (Ron) Moore and Judy Moore; son-in law: Leonard Zaragoza; grandchildren: Niki (Jake) and Brian; and great-grandson: Ben.

John was a devoted family man who loved his wife, children and their children. He enjoyed the outdoors and time with friends.
