John (JD/David), born in Alabama in 1954, spent his early years in Lawrenceville, GA. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia before moving to Colorado to further his education. A lifelong member of the NRA, JD developed a deep passion for Colorado's hunting and breathtaking mountains, making the state his home.
His dedication to education was evident throughout his career, as he taught at Miller Junior High, Fort Lewis College, and Pueblo Community College, eventually becoming a beloved substitute teacher known for his rapport with students. JD also served with pride in the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department, relishing his time as a police officer.
A distinguished expert marksman, he eagerly shared his love for shooting, even offering classes later in life. An avid reader, JD's insatiable curiosity made him a reservoir of knowledge, enriching the lives of friends, family, and students alike.
One of his greatest joys was his close relationship with his son, with whom he spent countless cherished moments. Known for his quick wit and humor, JD brought warmth and laughter to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
John is survived by Clinton McKnight (Son), Shellby Sayer McKnight (Daughter-In-Law), and Gwendolyn McKnight (Granddaughter).
He is preceded by John Daniel McKnight (Son), Michael McKnight (Brother), and Pamela Fort (Sister).
