John Austin Decker was born on August 6, 1949 to Austin and Vera (Nagle) Decker in Durango, Colorado. He passed away on July 21, 2023 at his home in Cope, Colorado at the age of 73.
John graduated from Durango High School and later attended Colorado State University and Fort Lewis College.
John married Terry (Middleton) Decker on March 18, 1972 in Durango, Colorado. To this union three children were born Joseph, Kelby and JonAnn.
John worked for Production Credit and various oil field positions along with always ranching.
John always greatly valued his family and adored grandchildren, AnnaBell and Austin Wade. He enjoyed spending his time doing anything that involved livestock, starting from a young age in 4-H and helping on his parents ranch in Durango, Colorado. John was a rancher all through his years and passed along his passion for raising livestock to his kids, Kelby and JonAnn. In his later years he enjoyed taking trips to Minnesota to relax with his wife, Terry.
John was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Austin Decker; parents, Vera and Austin Decker; sister, Donna Sullivan and brother, Billy Decker.
John is survived by his wife, Terry of Cope, Colorado; son Kelby (Lacee Phelps) Decker of Aztec, New Mexico; daughter, JonAnn (Jerod) Duffek of Halstead, Kansas; brothers, Dennis, Kennon and Jaye; grandchildren, AnnaBell Duffek and Austin Wade Decker; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Rosary – July 31, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial - July 31, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church both in Ignacio, Colorado. There will be a Private Family Inurnment.
