Danette Jenkins

d. October 7, 2015

Danette Jenkins, a lifetime resident of Durango, passed away Wednesday, October 07, 2015, surrounded by family, due to a battle with cancer. She was 53 years old.

Danette was born June 19, 1962, to Bill Don Barnes and Anita Louise (Jones) Barnes in Durango, Colorado. She grew up on the Florida Mesa in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in 1980. She married Kenneth Jenkins May 14, 1983. Together they raised their 3 children, owned and operated Jenkins Construction, and enjoyed ranching and farming as a team. Danette was very involved in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, including originating a local Boy Scout troop and volunteering as the Regional Cookie Sales Director for years.

Danette loved the outdoors. Camping, hiking and spending time with friends and family in God's Creation were highlights in her life. Through her recovery from a stroke and her recent battle with cancer, she was an example of strength and courage.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children: Mark (Tracy), Kevin (Kristen), and Jennifer Jenkins; grandchildren: Aiden and Wyatt; her parents: Bill and Anita; siblings: Russell (Sara) Barnes, and Dawn (Paul) Richardson, and many extended family and close friends.
