Obituary for
Ingrid Jefferson
Durango resident Ingrid Jefferson died Friday, November 18, 2011, in Mancos, Colo. She was 75.
Mrs. Jefferson was born October 13, 1936, in Fort Defiance, Ariz., the daughter of James and Opal Webster. She graduated from the Ute Vocational Indian Boarding School in Ignacio in 1956, and she married James M. Jefferson in 1957 in Aztec, N.M. She attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, while her husband was going to school there. She worked as a teacher’s aide for SUCAP in Ignacio.
Mrs. Jefferson was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed sewing shawls and shirts for her family and friends. She supported and traveled with her family to many functions, such as BMX racing, rodeos, pow wows, football and basketball games, and track competitions. She and her family traveled the Pow Wow Trail on their way to the Washington, D.C., Indian Folk Festival in 1974.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Jefferson, of Durango; sons Dan Jefferson of Ignacio, Timothy Jefferson of Durango, and Gary Jefferson of Lakewood, Colo.; brothers Bernie (Stella) Webster, Sr., of Farmington, N.M.; Marvin (Lynette) Webster, and James K. Webster, Jr., of Mesa Ariz.; sister Christina (Arnufo) Gonzales, of Mesa, Ariz.; granddaughters Lyndsey Jefferson Hanna of Oxford, Colo.; and Christina Jefferson of New Jersey; nephews Robert M. Jefferson of Ignacio; Richard Jefferson of Ignacio; Bernie Webster, Jr., of Glendale, Ariz.; Bruce J. Webster of Santa Fe, N.M.; Jeffery Jefferson, Jr., of Ignacio; nieces Robbi Mann of Colorado Springs; and Tileta Jefferson of Ignacio; sisters-in-law Misty Jefferson Yackytooahnipah and Katherine Jefferson of Ignacio; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SUCAP Senior Center, P.O. Box 800, Ignacio, CO 81137.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Southern Ute Memorial Chapel.
