Jayne Black Lyday
Jayne Black Lyday of Bayfield was born on 20 July 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away
Sunday morning, 25 Feb 2024, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Jayne graduated with a bachelor's
degree in Education from UCLA in California. Jayne is survived by her children Steven Lyday,
San Clemente, CA, John Lyday, Bayfield, CO, Pamela Savage (Doug), Bayfield, CO, and
Christopher Lyday (Trisha), Brentwood, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicole
Paduano O’Sullivan (Gary) Eastvale, CA, Brandon and Adam Lyday, Brentwood, CA, Keelin
Savage (Kyle), Cortez, CO and one great-grandchild, Braden O’Sullivan. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Donald Chester Lyday, mother Thettina Pauline Womeldorff Black, father
Robert Lyman Fenton, and brother Joseph Black.
Jayne was a lifelong educator who first came to La Plata County in 1959 as a 3rd-grade teacher
in Ignacio, CO, with her husband Donald, pastor at Ignacio and Allison Presbyterian churches,
and remained in the area until 1967. In those eight years, Jayne, Donald, and family fell in love
with La Plata County. In 2006, Jayne and Don retired and moved to Forest Lakes permanently.
Jayne was an active member of the Bayfield Presbyterian Church and Bible study. Jayne fully
enjoyed her fellowship there. When she was able, Jayne would attend Allison Presbyterian.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Pine River
Cemetery in Bayfield, CO. Following the graveside service, a reception with refreshments will
be held at the Bayfield Presbyterian Church, 89 Mill Street, Bayfield, CO at 12:00 pm.
