Obituary for
Ginny G. Hutchins
Ginny Graham Hutchins, 41, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at home in Durango, Colo. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall, and the Rev. Susan Blue of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will be officiating.
Mrs. Hutchins was born July 5, 1970, in Midland, Texas, the daughter of Hugh and Lou Ann Graham. Ginny grew up in Midland, Texas, and graduated from Midland schools. She attended Southwest University in Georgetown, Texas, and obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Texas in Houston at the Health Science Center.
She was married to James Hutchins in 2000 in Houston, Texas.
She furthered her education as a participant in the S.P.I.R.E. Program, which encouraged minorities to study the sciences, at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Mrs. Hutchins and her family moved to Durango in 2004 through an acceptance to a teaching position at Fort Lewis College.
"She was always a teacher," remembers her husband, James Hutchins.
Ginny was a member of the hand bell choir at First Presbyterian where she was an active member. She loved her family and especially enjoyed travel, hiking, camping and the Colorado outdoors.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Hutchins, her daughters Megan and Emma, all of Durango; her brother, Hugh Graham, of San Francisco, California; a sister, Sharon Graham of Greeley, Colorado; a half-sister, Shannon Mitchell, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and an aunt, Patricia Graham, of Greeley, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
