Obituary for Robert F. Hutchings
Robert Frederic Hutchings died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, surrounded by his wife, Susan, daughter, Tracy, and grandsons Devon Hutchings and Dillon Becker, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. He was 71.
Mr. Hutchings was born November 19, 1940, in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., the son of Harold and Lillian Hutchings. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a commissioned officer in the Military Police in the U.S. Army, serving in Okinawa, Germany and three times in Viet Nam, before retiring with the rank of Captain. He married Susan Rhinehart June 5, 1993, in Berthoud, Colo.
When he moved to Colorado, he became an avid horseman, a passion he shared with his wife, Susan, and his children. He also enjoyed sports, and he loved cheering for his favorite teams with his brother-in-law, Louis Rhinehart.
Mr. Hutchings is preceded in death by his father, son Peter A. Hutchings, and daughter Deborah Ann (Hutchings) Hilton. He is survived by his wife, Susan R. Hutchings, of Durango; son, Steven J. Hutchings, of San Diego, Calif.; daughters Tracy M. (Hutchings) Powers of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lori B. Hutchings of Thornton, Colo.; mother, Lillian Gourdier, of Farmington, N.M.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
