Coolidge Hunt

December 29, 1940 — January 8, 2016

Coolidge Gerald Hunt passed away on January 8, 2016 from Parkinson's Disease. He led a full life with many accomplishments. During his young years, Coolidge drove a semi-truck for Time Motor Freight. He attended Texas Tech where he was a three-year All-Southwest Conference fullback. He also participated in the ROTC during this time and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Coolidge was drafted by the Vince Lombardi-led Green Bay Packers as a linebacker. A trade in 1964 sent him to the Philadelphia Eagles, at which time he chose to resign from a career in football and focus on teaching & coaching. Known as Mr. Coolidge, he was a popular junior and senior high school football, basketball, track, & wrestling coach and PE teacher throughout Texas. He started a successful social studies program at Midland, which continued after he left. Coolidge moved to Durango in 1972 where he purchased a full-service Shell station on 8th Avenue, now Sonic. He started his own auto sales business in 1987; Hunt's Truck Sales. After retirement in 2010, Coolidge focused on his hobbies; fishing, hunting, dominoes and current events.
Coolidge was preceded in death by his parents David & Walcie Hunt and brothers David Jr. & John. He is survived by his wife Connie Mae Hunt; sons Clint Wade Hunt & Collin Gerald Hunt; step-daughter Monya Linn Howard; grandson Chad Dewayne Howard; great-granddaughter Dallas Howard; brothers Michael, Ronald, Jimmy, & Sonny Hunt; sisters Dixie Mackill, Louise Hollins and Betty Avens. Coolidge will be remembered by his family for being a great provider for his family.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Coolidge will be cremated, and in the summer his ashes will be scattered in the mountains, which he loved dearly.
