Grace Halle (Engler) Holcomb passed away peacefully at home with her son and family surrounding her after a short battle with leukemia on September 20, 2018. She was born July 24, 1931 in Durango, Colorado to Paris and Elizabeth (Betty) Engler, the third of five children.
Grace graduated from Durango High School in 1949 and went to Fort Lewis College for a year before moving to San Diego, California. It was in San Diego that she met Robert L. Holcomb who was serving in the U.S. Navy there. After Bob's discharge from the Navy, they were married on September 19, 1953 at the Allison Community Church. On April 7, 1959 they were blessed with a son Robert Glenn.
Grace was in the banking business in San Diego until her retirement. She and Bob moved to Palm Desert, California where she spent many days golfing. They loved Colorado so bought some property from her Dad overlooking the Allison valley and Navajo Lake. She enjoyed spending summers here after Bob's death in 2000. She was here this summer until her illness took her back to California on September 1, 2018.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, brother, Richard Engler, and her sister Betty Jean Priddy. She is survived by her son Glenn and his wife Yolanda, granddaughters Nicole and Danielle, Brothers Ernest and David Engler, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Grace loved life and had fun wherever she was. She was a kind loving person spreading smiles and joy everywhere she went. She will be missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church, 11942 Hwy 172, Ignacio followed by graveside service at Allison Cemetery. Lunch and fellowship will follow at Allison Grange hall, County Road 329.
