Daniel Joseph 'Danny' Hogan collapsed and died while hiking with the love of his life, wife Robin, and brother-in-law Steve Emrich in Saguaro National Park near Tucson, AZ on September 17, 2016. He and Robin currently resided in Dallas, Texas and spent time at their summer home on Vallecito Lake north of Bayfield, Colorado.
Danny was born to Michael 'Mickey' and Maureen Hogan in Durango, Colorado on March 18, 1959. The fourth of the five Hogan children, Danny enjoyed growing up surrounded by the Hogan clan and friends and classmates at St. Columba School. He graduated from Durango High School in 1977 and from Fort Lewis College in 1986. Among his youth accomplishments Danny won National Championships in Nordic Skiing.
During his life, Danny was involved in the oil and gas business in Texas, water well drilling in La Plata County, Colorado, and other enterprises. He loved the mountains, skiing and hiking whenever possible. His extended family all appreciated his remarkable ability to reach out and help others whenever a need arose. Danny was an incredibly devoted and loving father to his daughter Brittini. Danny treasured time with family and friends and had an Irish knack for telling long winded stories.
Danny was predeceased by his mother, Maureen Hogan, and his nephew, Michael Munoz Hogan. He is survived by his wife, Robin Bennett Hogan of Dallas, TX, his daughter, Brittini Hillyer of Long Beach CA, and his father, Mickey Hogan of Durango. Also surviving are his sisters Beth (Steve) Emrich of Durango, Sharon (Scott) Hogan of Moab, UT, brothers Stephen (Sharon) Hogan of San Diego, CA and Charles (Mindi) Hogan of Layfayette, CO. He leaves six nephews, a niece and numerous other extended family members.
A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church in Durango. A reception will follow at the Double Tree Hotel.
