Naomi F. Hiner
Lifetime Durango resident Naomi Faye Hiner died Friday December 7, 2012, at her home on the Florida Mesa surrounded by her family. She was 87.
Naomi was born December 19, 1924, in Durango to Foy and Annie Thompson. She was the youngest of three girls. Naomi was a graduate of Durango High School class of ’42. She married Floyd Andrews October 1944 in Durango, and together they had two sons. She later married Ellis Hiner in August 1955 and had three children.
Naomi is best known from her years as a clerk at south City Market, where she worked from 1969 until her retirement in 1982. She later worked part time at Forget Me Knot Fabric store and Durango National Bank. Her hobbies included genealogy, sewing, quilting, gardening and rock club. She looked forward to a monthly get together with high school classmates. The group affectionately referred to themselves as ‘The Remnants.’
Naomi was preceded in death by her husband Ellis Hiner. She is survived by sons Raymond and Ronald Andrews of Durango, and Dean Hiner of Springfield, Mo., and daughters Jan Parsons and Kelly Brown, also of Durango. She had nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at Florida Presbyterian Church, 1024 County Road 230, with the Reverend Dan Straw officiating. A dinner with the family will be held immediately after the service and graveside burial at Crestview Cemetery at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florida Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Mercy.
