Bayfield resident Steven Richard Hine died October 12, 2014. Steve was a lifelong resident of beautiful La Plata County.
Steve passed away due to a heart attack while doing one of the things he loved the most, working cows on the mountain. Steve and his beloved wife Linda enjoyed countless hours on their horses doing any job that honored the cowboy way of life.
Steve grew up in the animas valley and will always be remembered for his unshakable work ethic. Steve was well known for his topnotch fence work, logging, log home building, and the dying art of hunting and packing. Steve rode the mountains from Cascade to Missionary Ridge to Balding without batting an eye. He was a member of a dying breed of hard-nosed men.
Steve is survived by his wife Linda Hine. His son, Rich Hine of Bayfield, CO, his wife Jennifer and grandsons Chance, Bodie, and Jake Hine and great granddaughter Paisley; eldest son Tim Hine of North Branch MN; his wife Staci and grandsons Hays and Weston Hine. Brothers Jim Gray and Andy Gray
He was preceded in death by parents Bill and Jenny Gray, and Bob Hine.
A gathering in celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at the Bayfield Lions Club in Bayfield, CO.
