Obituary for Matilde J. Herrera
Matilde Herrera passed from this life very peacefully and content at her granddaughter’s home on July 7, 2012. She was 95.
She was born September 21, 1916, in Lumberton, N.M., to Fernando and Filia Gallegos. Matilde was a very beloved mother, grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and with the many children that she took care of. A fifth generation grandmother, she was known to everyone as "GRANDMA HERRERA."
She loved crocheting, gardening and taking care of her family and grandchildren. Matilde was a gentle soul with much love who will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres A. Herrera, and her son, Andres V. Herrera. She is survived by her son, Antonio P. Herrera, and a niece that she raised, Noemi Duran, 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East Fifth Ave., in Durango. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, also at Sacred Heart. A reception dinner will follow the service at the Parish Hall.
