Obituary for Larry W. Henderson

Larry W. Henderson, 58, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colo. He was born on September 13, 1954, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Willie James and Jimmie Nell Henderson. Larry grew up in Mancos, Colo. He graduated from Mancos High School in 1973. For 30 years he worked for Public Service Company of New Mexico as a plant mechanic and later as a craft supervisor until he retired in 2010. He then worked part time for All American Technical Team in Farmington as project manager. Larry married his best friend, Susan Mitchell, in 1976 in Farmington, N.M. They were happily married for over 36 years. He loved riding his motorcycle, playing his many guitars, weight lifting and traveling. In 2006 Larry became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and spent time helping people understand the Bible. He recently discovered a real passion for reading — especially historical fiction. Larry had a commanding presence, which was often misunderstood, but underneath his rough exterior was a compassionate, caring man who only wanted to right the wrongs of the world. He will be sorely missed by those who love him—but the stories about him will live on. Larry is survived by his wife and best friend, Susan, of Aztec, N.M.; his son, Chris Henderson (Michelle), of Farmington, N.M.; his daughter, Kim Henderson-Barrett (Justin), of Idyllwild, Calif.; and his step-grandson, Syd Neylan, of Farmington, N.M. Larry was preceded in death by both of his parents. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5661 College Blvd., Farmington, N.M., at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Condolences may be left on Larry Henderson's online guest book at www.hoodmortuary.com.
