Seab Franklin Helms Jr., passed away on May 22, 2017 at home, surrounded by his family, he was 73. Seab was born in Monroe, NC to Mary and Seab Helms in 1943. His father died fighting as a sniper in World War II. His mother remarried his adopted father and they moved to Albuquerque, NM, where Seab would spend his high school years, following his passion for all things automotive. He loved cars, motorcycles, guns, hunting, fishing, nature and wildlife.
Seab joined the Navy promptly after graduating from high school. He served his country by putting his mechanical skills and talent to use during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he lived in several places, until he found his home in Durango, CO in 1980. Here, he and his wife, Vicki raised three children. For 30 years, he worked in the oil and gas industry for Solar Turbines. After their children grew up and moved away and had families of their own, Seab and Vicki would spend their time together dedicated to their passion; riding motorcycles. Their rides would include attending rallies and runs across the country, and connecting with fellow bike enthusiasts all across the United States.
His life is celebrated by his loving wife, Vicki, his two brothers, his three children, his grandchildren, his adopted father, as well as countless loved ones in his community who would call him their brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 E. Third Avenue, Durango, CO.
